BITCOIN PIZZA!
Azimuth launches “BITCOIN PIZZA!”, a special Garfield watch to commemorate Bitcoin Pizza Day on 22nd May
Laszlo Hanyecz is the man widely believed to be the first ever person to conduct a commercial transaction using Bitcoin in 2010. Largely an experiment to see what value, if any, bitcoin had, Hanyecz, a programmer by training, offered 10,000 bitcoins via an online forum to anyone who could bring him two Papa John’s pizzas.
When Bitcoin was first mined in 2009, it was basically worthless, or at best a fraction of a penny. No one had ever actually spent a bitcoin before, so the prices were largely based on theoretical value.
Fast forward to 2022; at the point of this press release these 2 pizzas would have been valued at approximately US$400,000,000.
GO BACK-IN-TIME (BIT) AND BUY UP ALL THE BITCOIN!
Azimuth has partnered with ViacomCBS Consumer Products to create this special BIT watch. Based on Azimuth’s original creation, the BIT mechanism with an anti-clockwise single hand now comes animated with our beloved Garfield character. Limited to 100 pieces, this collector’s item will surely hold a special place in the hearts of many.
This timepiece named “BITCOIN PIZZA!” depicts Garfield running away with a pizza and telling time with his animated hand. It aims to celebrate the creation of Bitcoin and marks an occasion in 2010 when Laszlo paid 10,000 Bitcoins for 2 pizzas.
Still want to grab some Bitcoins at the old price? Perhaps wearing this Azimuth Garfield watch, which tells time in an anti-clockwise fashion, would empower you to travel Back-In-Time to buy up all the Bitcoins!
Just remember not to buy any pizzas with it...
THE GARFIELD LIMITED EDITION TIMEPIECE
This collector’s item depicts Garfield, a global pop-culture icon, running away with a slice of pizza and sporting a cheeky smile. At all times Garfield displays speed and fluidity as his hand moves anti-clockwise in every time-telling position.
Azimuth is proud to bring Garfield into the world of haute Horlogerie with this quirky timepiece, and we are certain that both Azimuth and Garfield fans who are self-confident, want comfort, and have that swagger-like attitude can certainly relate to Azimuth’s philosophy of watchmaking!
HISTORY OF AZIMUTH ANTI-CLOCKWISE WATCH (BIT)
Azimuth's Automatic Back-In-Time (BIT) impressed the world with its debut at 2009 Baselworld for its simple complexity. A throwback to the days of sun dials, it showcases Azimuth's innovative stance in creating unique timepieces, being the world's first reverse direction single-hand timepiece. To date the BIT remains as one of Azimuth’s most iconic models.
